NKB40 FOR ONE HEARTLAND

This will be a great show with a great purpose!

Forty fine art painters from the studios and galleries from Minneapolis' Northrup King Building, will host a collaborative gallery show in order to raise funds for One Heartland.

The show will be held in the 3rd floor Gallery of Northrup King and will feature an eclectic group of painters – from representational to abstract, from landscape to portrait, from outlandish to nuanced – providing for all tastes. You are invited to purchase the prints and pain

Based in Minneapolis, One Heartland has run camp programs for children facing significant life challenges for over 20 years – challenges such as HIV/AIDS, type 2 diabetes, homelessness and identifying as LGBTQ. The majority of their programs are offered at no charge, as most of their campers’ families live at or below the poverty line, and so they rely on fundraisers such as NKB40 for One Heartland to make their camps a reality. Opening Reception: Friday, March 28 from 5 to 11 p.m. with complimentary refreshments. The exhibit and sales continue on March 29th from Noon to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, March 30 from Noon to 4 p.m.

NEW YEAR, NEW STUDIO

I'm excited to announce the opening of my new studio. Same site...Northrup King Building in Minneapolis...but I'm no longer subleasing. Darrell Hagan and I decided to take the plunge and, in the words of my husband, "move in together" (as studio mates co-leasing the same place, that is.) You'll find us in Studio 427. We're open from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on the first Thursday of each month, by appointment, and of course for Art-A-Whirl in May. (More on that later.)
Darrell specializes in surrealism. My loves are narrative pieces in oil and botanical watercolors, with the addition of an artsy experiment every now and then. We'd love to see you.

Nothing special here...just a favorite recipe.
Dice seeded green pepper, onion, and mushrooms in approximately equal amounts. Saute slowly in olive oil until tender/crisp. Season with sea salt (optional, but it's really the sea salt that makes this a great side dish). Serve immediately or at room temperature. Yum!

I've written earlier about the classes in botanical watercolor I've been taking under the excellent tutelage of Marilyn Garber, founder of the Minnesota School of Botanical Artists. I wrote about how surprised I was to discover a discipline I didn't expect to fall in love with and about my discovery of an intense pleasure in a zen-like, focused experience. Just me, nature's gorgeous colors, and my paint brush.
